Default upgrade speaker question

When upgrading speakers on fairing touring bikes, would adding any type of foam inside fairing help any? Ive heard adding foam will help the sound from getting lost inside fairing and project through grills better. Any truth to this?
Im just updating stock speakers to hogtunes and not adding an amp til summer. Thanks.

I just picked up some boom audio speakers, when I put the fairing together I plan to run a small bead of clear silicon around the inner and outer just to make sure I get a tight seal. I know if you dont have a tight seal it you will loose sound. Not sure on foam tho.

You have a couple of options for the foam. The best would be to use a Dynamat or equivalent product. You can find it already cut to the shape of the inner fairing. I just installed a set of Polk Audio MM6501's including the tweeters in my 2000 Electra with a Hog Tunes amp. I sprayed the inside with a light coat of undercoating from the auto parts store. It gives it a bit of sound deadening. As for silicone on the mating parts to make sure that no air leaks. No point beyond the gasket as the fairings on Harleys are not water tight, therefor not air tight.

Just my experience.

Just upgraded my stock speakers to hogtunes and I am very pleased with the difference. Stock speakers had distortion at half volume and trying to go more than half volume would limit and default back to half. Hogtunes speakers alone were a noticeable improvement over stock and i am very pleased with the upgrade. Now to get amp and pod by summer should round out sound nicely. Install was piece of cake. Twenty minutes maybe.

When I upgraded to the J&M 7 1/4 speakers, they sent a 1/2 inch thick pad that covers the entire inside of the outer fairing. Love the sound much better than the stock speakers.

Don't bother with it, any upgrade is better that stock, I did a clean swap to Boom Audio front & back, they rock fine for me, well worth the time & money.
