The only thing I would add to the above posts is to make sure and cover all the ports where air or critters could get into the motor. Intake / exhaust and fuel lines all need to be plugged.

Yes, my basement is climate controlled. Thanks for the tips. Any more thoughts on how heavy the beast is?

Particularly by British people who ride a motorcycle made in the Colonies. I hope the Queen doesn't find out...

Default Another tip

As far as weight, maybe look at the parts catalog under shipping weight. A bare engine would be less due to the lack of packing crate.

One more thing to do before storing, like someone else posted squirt oil into cylinders is good, but rotate your engine until your valves are closed.

I just found a site that said a fully ***. EVO was 168#'s. So thinking a 96''er (A) motor wouldn't be much more.

I can tell you this:

I was able to lift a shovelhead motor when I was in my twenties, and I've never been Superman. I got it clear of the ground and sorta waddled it over to the wall, maybe six feet away.

I didn't stop in the middle to step on a scale, but if that was more than a hundred-fifty pounds I'd be extremely surprised...and I might have a retroactive hernia.

Hmmm, and shovels had cast iron cylinders too.

Type this in on google "how much does a harley engine weight". Click the first link to the vtwin forum. I can't link it here. It appears to be 104 - 165 lbs though.

Should give you a ballpark. Would really like to know where the rest of the 550lbs comes in on a sporty though....
