After reading about people complaining about how hot there motor's run especially with a cat, I though "meh, it doesn't get hot enough up here to worry about it." In fact i welcomed any heat at all. But, during a trip to the city this weekend mine got hot. Like nuclear reactor hot! The temp was only about 75F. In some minor stop and go traffic the rear cylinder would shut down and when i would take off it would spark knock.
Its a 2012 103" FLHR, stock with the exception of V&H fishtail slip ons. No tuner. Does this sound normal? Would a programer help even though my intake is stock?

The new bikes do run super hot. My 03 with a Carb the oil will run 200 all day and my fathers new bike on the same trip will run 235 to 250. After riding my dads I will be staying with my carbated 88

I would upgrade your A/C and then get a quality tuner and dyno tune. Your looking at about 700 bucks but you will wake up your motor and it will run a lot cooler.
If you are short on cash...go to nightrider.com and order some XEID's for around 100 bucks. The are pigtails that go between your 02 sensor and ECM that fuel your ECM into giving it more fuel which will bring down the temp 25-30 degrees. If you poke around the site, it has a lot of valuable info talking about heat.

I am probably the least handy guy you'd ever meet, so with that in mind, are these XEID's something that a mechanically inept person could install ?
Does Harley offer anything similar to the XEID's ?
My bike is stock and I'd like to keep it that way, however, if I could install something to make it a little bit cooler, that would be great. I have no desire for more power or louder exhaust.

cut out the catalytic converter and get some xied's. it made a lot of difference on my bike. if you have emission tests in canada, you will need to get another pipe and keep yours for the inspections.
