Default RE: How long should a battery last??

I had one last 9yrs, still kicking good when I sold the bike.

I've got one right now that's 7 yrs. old and it gets the battery tender in the grey gloomy months
The Phatail Harleybattery is only 3 yrs old. It's fine though (9k miles)

I have an 08 Ultra with 12k miles. It still had the original battery manufactured in 2007 that I am told has always been on a tender. Just replaced the battery today with another East Penn AGM battery from my local vendor. I doesn't have a Harley sticker but it comes from the same OEM supplier. We'll see if this one goes 8 years.

From what I have seen in all the posts it looks like you should add up everyones total years of how long their batteries have lasted and divide that number by the number of replies, that will give you an average of what you should be getting on your battery.

My guess is that this thread (8+ years) outlived his battery. Ron

The batt on my 13 FLTRXSE2 is getting weak, checked by the dealer just before the warranty expired, the said it was fine, Hmmm, the voltage drops below 10vdc if it sits for an hour.

The batt on my ZX10R was 6 years old and holding solid 12vdc after sitting for a week.

same garage, same climate.

Some batteries last and some don't.

This was the thread that popped up when I searched for how long a touring battery should last. Surprised my battery lasted this long and also that this thread stayed burried that long. I just wanted to put in a plug for the AGM batteries manufactured by East Penn. There is a reason they are the OEM for Harley but still no reason to spend $40 bucks or more on a Harley sticker.

The average lifespan of any automotive type battery is 5 years. Cold weather and extended sitting in a discharged state will negatively impact this. Also, improper setup procedures will shorten battery life.
If you are lucky enough to get one that was charged properly after the acid was added and keep it charged properly I've seen a few batteries last 10 years.

May be not same level but on my old metric with the aftermarket battery it didnt last but a year.

Heat is far worse on a battery than cold. I replaced more batteries when I lived in the desert than here.
