Reupholstering your own seat?
I was looking to see if any of you have reupholstered your own seat. I did a search and a little info came up but it was 2 to 3 years old. Was curious if anyone has done it recently and what materials you used. I have a Mustang Vintage on my Nightster and want to swap out the color of the vinyl. I might also check out some upholstery shops in the area but thought it would be interesting to try to tackle this myself.

First thing you'll need is a heavy duty sewing machine that will handle thick vinyl and leather. I'm talking industrial Pfaff or the equivalent here. Your everyday average machine won't even handle jeans thickness denim without going out of time.
Outside of that it really isn't too difficult when you use the original cover as a pattern.

I used a Crossbones seat pan, and added what I wanted for padding, then used Live Oak saddle leather and made an old 40's style seat for my bike......
I like it and it is more comfortable than an expensive seat off the shelve.....
I rode it from Louisiana to New Jersey and back, never once got numb butt syndrome..
