I currently have an engine and trans from an 89 fl. I am wondering if anyone knows what year primary covers are interchangable. I believe that 89-93 fxr and fl are the same. are there any other years or models that will work. The set up is going into a rigid frame so model specific really doesnt apply. Thanks Joel

 

Should be the exact years/models you already said. In '94 the bolt pattern on the primary cover changed.

 

The 92 FXR takes primary cover part number 60664-89, the 89 means it has been the same part since 1989, and it lists it as PRIMARY COVER, CHROME, FLT/HT

Sounds to me like you are good to go. I did not have a part number for 93.

 

There's a difference between the FL and FLT , standard FL is longer like the softtail models and FLT is the shorter stubby looking primary and like was stated the break year was 94 .

 

Thanks guys, i really appreciate it. Yeah the engine was out of an flt. sorry for any confusion. I was just looking for a polished cover to powder coat. thanks for the info on the -year.
