Default Back rest info

I have a 1989 FLHS which I have got to believe uses the same Rear rack assembly as your 1988 Classic. If this is true, I believe that a rear rack assembly from any FLH model in the years 1987-1991 will fit. The Back rest/luggage rack assembly I ended up purchasing (Along with a Rear rack assembly, back pad and seat grab rail bar.) came from a 1992 FLH, and I can definitely report that the rear Rack assembly does not fit onto/into 1991 and earlier model bikes.

The Backrest/Luggage rack assembly p/n 53405-87 (H-D) was made in 3 versions (87, 87A, 87B with B being the latest) and all 3 will fit 1987 through at least 1992 and most likely later year bikes. I have heard but am not sure that this might go up to 1996.

I still have the grab rail, the rear rack assembly and back pad that came off the 1992 assembly and would sell them to any one interested, but not the back rest luggage bar assembly which is what I bought the entire package to get for myself to use. Yes I wanted it that bad.

The Rear rack shown and available for sale is only for 1992 bikes on up, the pad is universal for the entire range of years, as I believe the grab rail is.

I've included a picture that I have on file that shows the 1992 set-up which may give you an indication of the 4 different parts that I've listed. The parts are set up in the relationship that they would be when mounted to your bike. The parts that I believe that you are looking for are the rear rack assembly (Lower right of parts, the back rest/luggage rack which includes the upright that the pad is mounted onto and the 4 rectagular bars horizontal to the rear Rack assembly and of course the pad.

I searched all the parts places locally, and finally found my set on E-bay. Good luck.

Just found this on EBay,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARLEY-DAVID...item5894fe19d4

It's in the U.K., and it is just the back rest rail, might be more of what you are looking for.
