Iceman336 accident details and photos
As some members on here already know, I was the victim of a texting driver on September 26, 2012.
I spent the month of October in a coma. November and December I spent in a trauma ward. I suffered injuries to:
On December 17, I was transferred to a rehab hospital for physiotherapy. Those people worked marvels. I have been released from the Glenrose Rehabilitation hospital effective February 13. I am currently working to set up a daily physiotherapy schedule with a number of different specialists. My handshave limited function at this time due to the severity of the injuries sustained.
As for how I am coping: it is a difficult process. My spine has been fused from the coxxyx (tailbone) to the L4 vertabrae which means I am limited as to the distance I can walk as my middle back must now take the strain and function of my lower back. I am looking at at least 3 more surgeries to repair the muscle damage around my *******. The rubber inflatable donut and I will be good friends for quite some time in the future.
I have also been diagnosed with severe sacroplexus damage with damage to the anxillary nerves. Basically that means that all the nerves in my pelvis – the ones which control bladder function and the ones which control sexual stimuli – have been damaged or destroyed. I can no longer perform marital functions.
Honestly speaking, I am glad to be alive but incredibly frustrated at the damage to my body. I cannot enjoy those things which were important to me. The simplist tgings which I used to be able to do without effort are now a major challenge. For that matter, stairs have become a major hurdle. I wonder if the woman who hit me has any idea of the havoc she inflicted on both my wife and myself.

- both hands severed at the wrists - successfully reattached
- broken collar bone
- 7 ribs broken
- T10 vertabrae to the coxxyx (tailbone) fractured
- pelvis shattered - one piece disappeared between the accident scene and the OR. I now call it my offering of flesh and bone to the native spirits.
- split like a wishbone from scrotal sac / sphintcer to my navel allowing my lower intestines to flow out on to the ground. (This is wher I believe I lost the section of pelvis).
- both hips broken
- severe sacroplexis nerve damage with corrosponding damage to the anxillary nerves

Holy hell man! Sorry to hear about this. I can't even comprehend what you and your wife are going through.
Any info about the driver? Ticket? Lawsuit? Anything?
Also, just curious - were you in full gear? What were you wearing?
Praying for a speedy recovery for you man.

Geez Iceman! I am SOO sorry that this happened, and that you're going thru hell due to it. Reading your story almost brought me to tears.
I will be keeping you in my prayers for as long as you need them.

I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. I doubt the person that caused this has any idea and probably doesn't care. I know it won't do much, but I'd sue her for everything she has and anything she will have in the future

As for what the driver got: no one told the responding officer she was on her phone, I was unconcious, so she got away with a ticket for undue care and attention. Unless the accident results in a fatality, the cops won't subpeona telephone records. However, ,my lawyer has already requested them for the civil action.
As for gear, I was lucky. I was wearing a modular full face with an ECE rating. ECE is the acronym for the european racing commision so the helemt was rated for 300 km/h impact. I firmly believe that saved me from a broken neck or skull fracture. I was not wearing my riding jacket as I was only going 3 blocks for lunch.

Glad you came through & are walking again. I wish you a speedy & total recovery.
I have said this before & I'll say it again. I believe texting is the absolute WORST invention of the 21st century. Aside from causing major distractions to drivers, it has turned this generation of young people into mindless, zero personality robots. I had it disabled on my phone, & my GF is NOT allowed to text or recieve texts when she is with me. I believe that it should be abolished, or at least driving while texting made just as punishable as DUI. Cause an accident while texting--lose your license for life!
Hit her insurance hard, & I mean HARD!--maybe the point will get across. Good luck to you.
