I have a buddy that has an 03 1200C, carbed of course. His bike will beat my EFI up to 70, but I walk away from him above that.

Well my carb'ed 120R in my 2000 FXDX matches dynos with most EFI 120R's I have seen with similar pipes and mods. So I question any performance chest beating by either side. That's apples to apples because both are crate motors...
However the EFI is easier to start, better MPG (better efficiency do to 2 dimension mapping) and more reliable, but you need a dyno/computer to tune it (or just trial and error it). The Carb coughs and shudders at times - mostly off idle.
I do notice more smell (gas) from the carb and the size of it due to the 120R (51mm)...

Well with a carb you have to jet it for altitude and air temperature. Keep the throttle cables balanced to they pull the slide up the same on all (both) carbs. They're hard to start, fart, cough, sputter. You need a choke.
Efi, no throttle cables, no jets, no slide, no contstant tuning. You hit the starter it works.
Performance? I don't give a rats ***. The Efi is the cats meow, why would anyone choose a carb?

Comparing apples to apples it is always about the tune.Course when arguing this subject there will always be differing opinions.I prefer carbs because of knowing them inside and out been tuning them over 50 yrs.
Bottom line is with a carb a Harley sounds just like a Harley should sound in my opinion especially at idle.
