Default Best oil and oil filter?

I'm going to start changing my own oil. Was wondering who makes the best filter for a Softail? I would like to stick with regular oil. Is there an oil which will run better than others? On average how many miles between changes?

I like Mobile 1 Vtwin oil. After being around aviation for quite some time and seeing what regular mobil 1 does in an aircraft engine. Im sold.

I've used mobil vtwin 20-50 syn for awhile now. Only because it handles the summer heat better than dino oil. As far as filters go everything I've read says that HD filters are actually of very good quality. I've switched to K&N because they are somewhat less expensive especially when I buy them in bulk.

I run Amsoil. There is a reason you are supposed to use HD filters and it seems like it had somthing to do with bypass or somthing like that.....
