I have both and I can't tell the difference. My Crazy Al's was cheaper and has the ratchet strap so I like it 100 times better.

I have both as well. The only difference I can see is the logo on the back.

Smile Akoury

Bought a ak88 last week from Blackbeards. Nice helmet, comfortable and well made. Don't really think it's a DOT though. Just a sticker on the back. 99 bucks free ship!

the ak88 does not have a 'sticker'. it is laminated under the clearcoat on the helmet, as per fed law. (at least mine is). don't remember off the top of my head if it has the label inside or not.

dude: there is a bit more to the 'law' than a sticker...

yeah? thanks. didn't know that. /sarcasm

my response was regarding the ak not being dot, just a novelty helmet with a sticker (as implied). [factoid: in la, if you are busted for not wearing a helmet, it's a $100 fine. if you are busted for a novelty helmet with a fake dot sticker, it's a $200 fine]

yes, I know there is no actual dot lab doing the testing, that it is incumbent on the helmet manufacturer to 'self-certify', and there are certain 'guidelines' that must be met. one of which is the dot has to be under the clear coat and not a sticker........

and, if the ak were to be 'selected for testing' that there is a decent chance that it might not pass all the requirements, and therefor end up being pulled from the market and/or recalled.....

Has anyone compared the AK 88 or the Crazy Al's SOA Beanie to the new Black Brand Cheater .50? This is another new, lightweight, low profile half helmet.

The fit and helmet liners, at least on mine are totally different. My AK has a full almost pouch helmet liner while my Crazy has thin foam that adheres with velcro. I purchased mine from Blackbeards on LI and they have had great customer service. I have purchased half helmets from Bell, the Pit Boss, way too big and heavy, as well as others. I have 3 Akoury and I love them. They are the most comfortable helmets I have and do not tend to blow off when I ride.
