Default Question about oil in new SB

i have a 13 streetbob, and i have put a little over 500 miles on it. i have an outlaw oil filter coming in soon, and was wondering if i will be needing to drain and change the oil to install it? I've never changed the oil on a bike and didn't know if i will have a huge mess if i try to remove the stock filter to put the new one on. I have also been reading that some people change the oil after about 500 miles anyway because of the engine breaking in. Should i just get some standard oil and change it while i'm messing with it, or do you think i should just wait for the 1k service and handle it then?

When I used to change mine...my bike's new so I won't for awhile...when I put a filter on, I drained the oil. It just makes sense. To me anyway.

If it's new, what does the manual say? And if it's new, why can't the dealership change it?

You might as well change the oil. I don't see how you could do it without making a mess.

It will make no difference mess wise if you drain the oil or not. That said, I would wait until the 1K service anyway.

I've read where some recommend changing oil & fiter at 50 to 100 miles to get the metal breakin particles out of the engine as soon as possible. Others say at 500, others say wait for 1K service. I waited until 1K, I figured the filter would catch all the metal. In the great scheme of things, I don't see that it makes a big krap as far at engine longevity is concerned.
