Power Commander

Power Commander
I'm hoping someone might be able to answer a question concerning emissions. I am currently living in Japan where a strict (and very expensive) emissions test must be passd before your 2001 or later HD can be titled and registered. My bike is a 2006 FLHTCUI and it is stock now with the exception of having a power commander and the 1450cc upped to 1550cc. Could the power commander have any effect on an emissions test, and if it could, can it be temporarily disabled? Thanks.

KR; Yes & yes...anytime you're adjusting a/f mix on a motor the emissions are affected. PC can be disconnected to put bike back to factory adjustments, but you can also remap PC to similar tune. I'd run the inspection & see if it passes, if not - then look into adjustments.

before the test save all you data if it was tuned, or its a canned map that you can easily get no problem. go into your AFR and set it for 14.7:1 same as factory setting. it will run lean again like factory an will pass test. or you can disconnect the power commander its hooked inline between it and the ecm. just reconnect the ecm connector back to ecm after test switch back.

Thanks, I think I'll try the disconnect. I have to ride 8 hours just to get to Tokyo for the test and it runs about $1,000 so I definitely need to pass the test the first time.
