Default lking for a descent torque wrench

I just purchased an inch pound torque wrench off the interweb. When it arrived I figured I better test it first so that I don't destroy my bike. I set it for 20 inch pounds and proceeded to try to tighten a bolt, not on the bike, thank god. It never clicked. I wound up snapping the bolt and it never clicked. It is on its way back now. I don't want to go through that again. Can some one please let me know of a good wrench to buy in the 75 - 100 range? I am by no means a mechanic and just need it to work on my bike. Just bought the manual and want to do the little things. I have a foot pound but need an inch pound.

Thanks in advance.
Jim

on the inch lb wrenchs i have used theres a threshold for it clicking below a certain point it doesnt click it just "slips" like it does when it clicks but without the noise. 20in lbs is below that point on my 2 in/lb wrenchs so it could eb the case with yours. but eastwood has some nice digital ones i nthe $100 range

I bought a foot/lb and inch/lb CDI torque wrenches. These are made by SnapOn, but they don't cost as much. I love them. Work great. I've taken them to our companies shop and it matches the snapon version perfectly...lol Here is a link to the company.

Do a search and you will find them at a good price. Just remember to store them at the lowest setting. Good luck.

For the weekend mech...Sears Craftsman work well and are equally as cheap. My in/lb is Sears & my ft/lb is Kobalt. Happy with both...

craftsman has their 20-250 "# clicker on sale for $62.95
Only thing their torque wrenches are not "tools", rather instruments and have but a 1 yr warranty, and only if you keep the receipt.

Go figure but my $20 Harbor Freight ones have served me just fine for the last 5 years of wrenching bikes and cars. Just saying .

Both times that I stripped screw head out, I was using a torque wrench. I no longer use one.
