Hidden antenna on ultra
#3
Check some of the threads on this topic. I recall lots of folks having issues with hidden antennas working well. It might be a brand issue, or maybe it's not a good idea to start with. Hopefully you can find one that works well and meets your needs. Good luck.

I installed a radio in my flht. Took a short piece of electrical wire and soldered an end for the radio on it. Taped it to inside of fairing. Works well in SW fl and didn't have to drill holes in the bike. Cheap to try

Bought one of these amplified rubber antennas from Autozone and zip tied it inside of the fairing. Works great on the SG. And, cost less than $10.

I have the HD 'hidden' antenna on my '14 SG. I lost a little performance in terms of station strength. It's not so bad I can't live with it. I count the trade-off, to be rid of the external whip antenna, to be worth it.
If your reception is marginal now, with the stock whip antenna, I suspect you'll lose ground with the HD hidden. If there's no issue now, you might not even notice the change where you usually ride.
There's just so much an amplified antenna can accomplish. If the signal is weak and has static to begin with…there might not be much there to amplify.
I think you'd almost need to install a hidden antenna and see how it works for you. On my '14 at least, it was pretty simple to install. You don't undo anything permanently so you could re-install the stock whip if you wanted. Tape the antenna down to test it, then if it doesn't work well you can remove it and sell it. I suspect you'll get 50-75% of the original price. Maybe more important, you'll know for sure how good it works. As for a brand, when I researched it, the latest version of HD hidden antenna had as good a reports as any.

I have a flexible mini antenna on the back but I want a hidden one as well. I hate those whips that come off of tour packs, maybe I'm blind but I get slapped more than once by those at rally's.
