Wink Tire price question for 2006 Harley deluxe

So I bought me a pristeen 2006 softail deluxe with 4400 miles on it, I did a three hole oil change on it with mobil one synethic. At 5100 miles I took my bike to my local indy harley guy to have the 5000 mile check up done minuse the oil change. Bike gets a clean bill of health but indy states I need tires in about 1000 miles, he states my tire presures were low thus the need for new tires.
I was quoted around 500.00 bucks for two new dunlop tires and install.
am I wrong to think that is a bit high ???
Thank you in advance for any and all help

That's about the going price for an Indy to get tires through Drag or other book and install... It's actually a bit low. Mine just cost me about $600

You can search online and buy tires yourself cheaper and see if you can find someone to mount them..

But on this one, I chose to support my Indy guy.

Man thats not bad, I just put a rear Dunlop wide white wall on my Haritage last week and it ran me about 320.00 bills but then this was at the local Harley shop. I could of got the tire cheaper from JP Cycles but Harley would'nt match the price or mount it.

yes, that's high.... They are probably selling you a Dunlop D402 Which says "Harley davidson" on it... you are paying an extra $60-$80 per tire just for that... The Dunlop D404 is the SAME tire minus the HD logo and the over inflated price.

I've heard that it is the same and that it isn't the same that the HD uses different compunds. This is totally anecdotal, but my buddy bought the non Harley Dunlop 404 for his Heritage and he got about 4,000 miles out of it. I got 10,000 out of my HD Dunlop. I still won't say for sure that there is a difference though.

The price you were quoted seems reasonable. SJ Ron

How about just putting AIR in the tires and ride on? Since when is low air pressure an indication the tire needs replacing...except of course if a big gaping hole precipitated the low air pressure... How is the tread depth?

I think he meant riding the bike while the pressure was too low caused the tire to wear faster.

4000 miles? What's he visiting the burnout pit everytime he goes out?
