Baffle question

Baffle question
I have a Vance and Hines longshots on my heritage and am looking for a louder sound. I don't want to completely remove my baffles because of lowr mpg decel popping etc...so what would happen if I just cut the baffles in half?

Don't the V&H pipes have 3 options for your pipes? Most of their pipes have quiet, mid and competition. I wouldn't cut them but that's me. I'd get another baffle, if they're available.

The guys at Hillside that provided my 98" kit suggested just that. Haven't done it yet though. If you're running just the standard baffle, I don't know how much louder they're gonna get to be honest. I ran mine without before I went big and they aren't much more quiet with the baffles. At least according to my riding buddies. Just removed the decel pop.

I cut baffles in half before and it didn't really affect anything. If you didn't do it already, you might take the baffles out and see if they have fiberglass wrapped around them. If they do you can take the wrapping off, put them back in and see if they sound better.

If you remove the baffle, you will see a lot of wadding around the baffle, Remove the wadding, reinstall the baffle without the wadding, and you have just made your pipes that much louder. There is a great how to on youtube at, Delboy's Garage.

Another option is to remove the baffles and install a pair of the DK Customs lollipop inserts to retain the performance. Easy to change out and cheap. Try 'em for awhile and have the option to go back to baffles when you get tired of the noise. They are about $20
