This was likely related to the crash which involved 10 HDs (which left a 23yo female rider in serious condition) at the gathering for the 110th anniversary in Rome.

 

Just saw that on the news, now that is pretty cool.

 

PR stunt.

 

On the part of the AP - if you read the story, the Pope was out for another event, a pro-life rally, and really the only thing the story says is that he mentioned the bikers. It ain't all that.

It is the AP after all. Look for the agenda or the stupidity in anything that they put out.

 

My wife and I won two tickets to the Friday Mass at St.Peter's Basilica ( for 2000 HOG members only) we had to get up at 5 am in order to be there for the Mass at 8am,all the bikes were allowed to park in the square for the duration of the event and it was quite a sight,Saturday night at the Port of Ostia (one of the three locations of the event) Willie G. and the rest of the Davidson family addressed the crowd of bikers that had arrived from far places(US,Russia,Singapore,Emirates,Ireland etc.).Bike count was between 130,000 to 150,000 and only 1 accident was reported.Pictures of the event can be seen here:www.hogeuropegallery.com.

 

We used to have an annual bike blessing when I lived in San Francisco a few decades back. It was at a fairly small church with a very large parking lot. The priest did it up real good with a white and purple robe, robed attendants carrying the ornate bucket of holy water, this golden wand he shook with the holy water on it blessing the bikes and bikers. 1%ers to Vespa riders showed up. Even those of us when weren't Catholic didn't want to miss out.

 

The vatican is all about PR, it has a shocking history, it makes Islam look tame.
