Question Precautions for solo Lindby Bar install on Dyna?

Before we get into a big debate on the aesthetics of a highway bar on a Dyna Wide Glide (I know, I know), I've decided that as a brand-new rider, it would be worth my while to put a Lindby highway bar on my new baby.

My question is: what precautions should I take before potentially undetaking an install of one on my bike? I'll have my Dad assist, but as long as we chock the bike, lock the bars, etc. is there a concern with removing the "frame bolts" or other items during the install? I've seen the install instructions from Lindby, and several YouTube video's and it doesn't look too complicated, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. I figure this may be an easy way to save at least $100 by doing this myself, but I don't want to risk anything if there's something that's going to cause an issue (physical or financial, haha).

Your thoughts?

Additionally, is there a big benefit to the $100 price difference between the two below?

Multibar - (single piece tube, goofy looking rubber footrests, but are they better than the O-Rings?)

Custom Bar - (welded, but it looks MUCH better, although $100 more)

I have the custom (welded bar) on my WG. IMO its just a better looking bar, I like the sharp turns better than the rounded ones. Installation is very easy, you should have no problems. Not really concerned if other people dont think it looks good on a WG. I'm happy with the looks of it,and I got it to help protect me and the bike some...

No problem, The bolts you'll be removing are for the shifter and rear brake ("forward controls" and pegs). Just follow the instructions. And if there's no blue loctite in the kit, get some.

Thanks for the reply! I do agree that it takes away from the looks of the WG, but I love the protection of the beautiful chrome; and the Lindby Custom does look much better. Love your bike, btw!

Not sure what you ride besides a Dyna, but be cautious about what might come into conflict with an installed crash bar like the lindy.

I have an '03 WG with chrome lowers attached to my forks so when I swing the front to one side or the other all the way it would hit a crash bar.....just an example, but make sure you check out clearances to avoid problems before messing with the Lindy. I have talked to their tech dept and they will not take back anything that has been installed, regardless, unless there is a manufacturing issue.

Here is a couple of pics of the clearance on my 03 WG with the front turned to one side, that glideridemike was talking about. I had some Memphis Shade Lowers on mine at one time and they cleared, but I could see where others could not. Probably a little over an inch clearence between to bar and fork.

I've got those lowers from National Cycle and they hang down pretty low, which is good for what I wanted, but does not allow clearance for a lindy bar. I also have footboards (HD version) and Lindys mounting will not fit with footboards. So I had 2 strikes.
