Whole lot of factors goes into what you think is worth it , most all my bikes but 2 have started as baskets or in need of major TLC & repairs and I haven't regretted one of them . You learn a lot , pick up some skills , spend money you don't need to as part of that learning thing but when it fires up and rolls out that first time there isn't any better sense of accomplishment .

Bikes are torn down for a reason. You will discover the reason when you reassemble it.
If you like headaches, aggravation, frustration and hopelessness you will receive a lot of satisfaction and pleasure at the end of the build.
Don't pay more than 10% of retail for a bike in pieces. Make sure you get a title.

i figure as long as the majority of the parts are there and all major componants are there then, im thinking that a blown motor, trashed tranny, spun bearings, possibly cracked cases and or stripped bolt holes are about as bad as it may et, i could be wrong, the only things i would be concerned about would be would be cracked cases and bent frame.. everythng else im not to worried about

If you had the time, energy and $$$, you could build a bike from parts sourced off eBay I suppose. Knowledge of what is interchangeable would be crucial, though.

I've been thinking about the same thing, buying a basket case. My question is, can i buy a basket case and lets say only use the motor and other parts from the basket, and some parts from another bike and be able to register it?

Depends on where you're located and the history of the frame VIN
