Default voltage regulator

Last week I replaced the voltage regulator on my 08 FLHTCU. At the time, I was hoping to find one at one of our local shops to avoid the shipping delay. While shopping, one of the shops encouraged me to also replace the stator, as this was the likely reason the regulator died. According to my volt/ohm meter, the stator was donig its job, so I just replaced the regulator. All seems to be fine.
I'm new to this site and value the info I've been reading, so just wondering about the opinions of the experts.
thanks

Agree with Soft 02. I have had a spare regulator, crank position sensor and a couple other things in my garage for years. I learned a while ago that dealers don't stock much anymore in the way essential parts and they have to be ordered most of the time. Never a problem finding bling though.
