Check the air in the tires, check the fluid levels and just ride the bike.

You'll get lots of opinions on this subject. My personal opinion is to chance oil more frequently than recommended by the manufacturer - I do in my cars and all my bikes. Never more than 3000 miles between changes. Oil is cheap compared to major motor repairs. Then again - I do the oil changes myself, so there is no service cost.... Read the tons of replies you will be getting and make up your own mind.

I must confess. I change my oil every 3000 miles. I ride in urban stop-and-go traffic and That is harder on the engine than mostly highway riding. Since this last oil I told myself I'd try to wait until 5000 miles before I'd do another service. I think I'm 2500 in and don't know what I'll do. lol

I picked up 12 quarts of Mobile 1 V-Twin when it went on special some months back. Now I'm down to my last 3 quarts! So now I'll be paying full price for the oil.

Congratulations on your new Heritage.

I would say that if you follow the manufacturers recommendations, your bike will last many years and miles. With that said, I would change your oil next at 5,000 miles and then every 5,000 miles thereafter. Use a good 20/50 full synthetic oil. If you want to know what oil brands those of us are using, refer to the following thread:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/oil-a...your-bike.html

Others will chime in noting they change their oil more often than 5,000 miles which is fine. Personally, I do not believe it is necessary with todays oil formulations. There is no study that compares how long an engine will last changing the oil at 3000 miles versus 5000 miles. Engine life depends on more than how often oil is changed.

So enjoy your ride and log some miles.

Yes. I would change it at 25 and then again at 5k during the engine "break in" period. After that every 3-5 as mentioned. Also nice bike. You got the good color.

At the 1 K I also did SE A/C, Rush pipes and Syn oils in all 3, I knew, later I was going to add cams so I went ahead and also did the SERT and a Dyno.

U'll be fine changing oils again at 5k and @5K thereafter. SYn oils are optional but there are better in higher heat climate area's and most of us do use it.

As mentioned above "DO" check Ur spokes or "MAKE" sure U dealer did, at the 1k service, in the past yr some of the newer bikes have reported loose spokes quite a few times.

Also make sure they greased Ur neck bearings.. It will take a lot of grease the first time to fill the neck cavity. after that only squirts will do.

I took mine in for 1k also and I did the Synthetic in all 3 actually only had to purchase 1 quart from dealer and I put Spectro Full Synthetic 75-140 in trans, what a difference in how it shifts. Oh yeh I only bought 1 qt. of Syn. oil and Chrome Filter and I know the wrench personally at the dealer and it was $275.00

thanks... it sounds like every 5000 miles change the fluids.thats what services dealer told me and I have a 5 year warranty so as long as I let them do the work it has to be all covered if its wrong.
