Default Compensator

Hello Fellow HD riders I ride a 2008 105th Anniversary Road Glide with the 96 cubit inch engine, and would like to know if any of you have had compensator problems.

On 10-09-13 I was riding 08 Road Glide about 40 mph and all of a sudden the rear wheel locked up. By the grace of God I was able to hang on and ride the bike to a stop. Had it towed to shop and while I watched they took the primary cover off and pieces of metal fell out. come to find out that it was part of the compensator. one large piece had lodgeinto the primary chain and gear. Any one else had this happen to them.

Glad your OK ! Good save

I feel bad for all the others that have no clue about the issue - which can be a SAFETY ISSUE !

Other than a loud bang at startup, no. I swapped the comp out for the SE in my RK when I had the motor resealed 2 years ago.

I had the loud bang at start up on my 2007 fat boy. I changed out the compensator with the SE version. No change. 2 months later, the starter crapped out. No noise now.

I just had mine replaced a couple of days ago. 2013 Blackline with 12,800 miles since mid December.

I noticed it would be hard to start and right after that, I could hear a grinding noise while it was running. That was enough for me to get it looked at. Luckily, it was under warranty.
