Default Consumer reports study on motorcycle reliability

Likelihood of a major mechanical issue:

Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki 10%
Harley Davidson 25%
BMW 33%

"On the other side of the coin though, when asked whether they would buy their bikes again, 75% of Harley-Davidson owners said “definitely yes” while 74% of BMW and 72% of Honda owners made a similar remark. Meanwhile, only 63% and 60% of Yamaha and Kawasaki owners, respectively, said the same about their motorcycles."

Most Harley riders would buy their bikes again if the wheels fell off...

that article has more holes in it then a pound of swiss cheese.. no data, no evidence revealed.. "major issues" is very subjective depending on who you're talking to.

They only post results & not the underlying data from their "4000" subjects. Anyone who's taken a business statistics course knows these so called consumer survey entities can "skew" data to show what they want the public to see. I'm guessing the jap bike manufacturers funded this study...

If they'd made two categories, maintained by dealer, and maintained by owner, I'd bet the maintained by owner for Harleys would have been much better. Not that dealers can't do good maintenance, but too many folks don't bother till something breaks. Do it yourselfers tend to get real particular about even little things. Probably on the other brands, too.
