Default Mid-November Delivery - Ride it or Wait

Taking delivery of a new 2014 Street Glide Special in mid-November. I 'might' have 2 to 4 dry riding days after that here in the Rochester, NY area. OR I can just put it right into the garage and put it up for the winter without riding it...

Mostly concerned about riding it a little and putting it away for 4-5 months. If I get 300 miles on it, I'd be doing good. I want to make sure I break this bike in perfectly so even though it would be damn hard, if it's best not to ride it and just store it for the winter, I will do that.

Also concerned about the break-in oil and if it will still be ok in the Spring to run it up to the 1K service.

Thoughts?

They do ride them after they dealer prep them. You won't hurt anything as long as you put it away fully warmed up..

I wouldn't worry about it, plus, how could you not ride it, that would drive me nuts!

Only thing I'd be concerned about is salt; if those roads get salted before you can get it home, I'd haul it home in something covered. Even after the salt dries, that powder gets into every crevice and just takes a little condensation to activate it. I'd put a tender on the battery, too, these new batteries don't seem to hold up to prolonged sitting like the old add water to them lead acids.

What's the point in getting a bike if you're not going to ride it? My vote is to put ALL of the break-in miles on it before you store it for the winter.

Or, better yet, don't store it for the winter.

Take her down and show her the leaves around Canandaigua Lake Probably post-peak by now but still so beautiful this time of year. Fall is when I miss Western NY the most. Enjoy the season and your new Glide!

Yup. Once salt is on the road, I'm done riding.

You can drop ship it here. I will make sure it is ridden often free of charge. I will even drive it up for you next spring on my way to visit the relatives in Gouverneur and Canton, NY.

Been in FL for 16 years now and don't miss the taxes or winters of NYS. It would drive me nuts to have a new motorcycle taunting me in the garage. Then again you can take your snowmobile out to have fun.
