Default Joe minton tw21 build why does he run stock heads

Why does Joe minton run stock heads with the andrews 21 build? I talked to many places like big boyzs and they said any bike even with a stock cam would benefit from a ported head

I did a little looking around and found this reply by Joe Minton, to someone's exact question. " I strongly recommend the Andrews TW21 cam set. It begins to make more useful power at a lower engine speed than any other Andrews offering. It is an excellent match for the needs of a touring bike. The Andrews EV13 or 21 cams are the only Andrews cams I recommend for touring engines. Intake-valve closing angles determine the rpm at which an engine begins to do its most useful work. These cams feature early intake-valve closing angles and have proven themselves in the field.
In my testing, the best midrange slip-on mufflers available are those produced by SuperTrapp, under the Kerker name, specifically, the ones sold for use with the Mikuni carburetor. They feature the performance baffle. These mufflers make more mid-rpm power than any others we have tested. The design goes back to research done by the British around 1911. Ported heads, SE or otherwise, have no discernable effect below 5,000 rpm. They would be a waste of money" There you have it from the man himself.,,

Not enough lift/duration/overlap to warrant bigger ports and valves. The 21 isn't a big cam by anyone's judgement. It's a very good variation of oem size cams that gets the job done down low. In fact, big valves and a high dollar port job might even net less performance with such a mild cam.

I've read a lot of Joes articles, mostly when I was picking my cams back in 08. Very smart dude...

click the link below and do a comparision of the three -Stock -VS-21's-VS- 26's

http://www.bigboyzcycles.com/tccams.htm

I choose them because they're easy on the engine and will net 15% to 20% more TQ across the whole sheet.

Other benefits was better mileage and cooler oil operating temp.

He had an article yrs ago where he told how to help stop the Bang on start ups on the new 96''ers.. 0 advance, at 0 throttle and 0 rpms.. Easy to do with the
SERT turner, harder or impossible to do on other tuners.

Had my tuner make the above adjustments when they retuned after the cam install at 16k with the SERT tuner.
Results - I haven't had the Bang on starts since. When starting, She turns over slow for a sec, then spins normal, taking most of the ramp up TQ off the Comp and prevents the Bang.
Usually, 99% of the time she'll start even on the slow 1st turn.

Dam , You just describe exactly how my bike starts !!! Very slow on the 1st turn. Now I'm wondering if this was done to my 05 deuce. I bought 3 yr ago with 2000 Miles on it with a K&N AC and a set of V&H long shots. I'll have to look into this.
