Default Which Twin Cam Conversion kit do you like ?

I'm looking at the Andrews kit and the HD-SE kit. My concerns are some have outer bearings and some do'nt. So what kit did you go with ?

Also do you know if there's a kit out there with roller chains on both sides of the cam plate ?

I imagine you are talking about upgrading an 88 with the old shoe tensioners. First of all checking them every 25k as part of a (now recommended) service routine works pretty well.

If you are determined to change I will share what I did. I used a 96" cam plate and oil pump with a set of Andrews conversion cams. You can get the cams in any grind you want. Other than the cams all the parts are stock Harley. Even the upgraded inner cam bearings can be gotten from Harley. There are usually eBay listings for cam plates and pumps.

I am just suggesting an alternative.

Suggest using HD adjustable pushrods, I used S&S ones and they just wouldn't stay tight, kept slacking off, so had to change to HD SE ones.
Wish I had brought them from the offset and saved some $$ plus they are thicker and stronger than the S&S ones.

I didn't like the S/E kit. It only changes one of the chains, so basically only fixed half of the problem.

I opted to go with the 96" conversion set-up. I think you'll find that Andrews doesn't sell their kit any longer. Word was that HD took action to prevent them from selling it. I know no one was selling it when I wanted to use it this spring. It's not a problem though as Andrews used all HD parts in their kit. The parts are all listed in their assembly instructions, so just buy from HD...I used an on-line dealer that gave 20% off on all parts. See below for instructions and parts lists.

If your crank run out is in tolerance you could also go to gear drive cams. Andrews , S&S and Fueling all have conversion kits.

What does the roller chain look like compaired to the standard chain? Any pictures would be nice. I'm thinking that the chain links are flat not shaped like a bone . More like these two at jp cycles part #711-644 for primary and # 711-642 for secondary that look like roller chains to me.
