oil filter question
Hello, my name is Lee I am brand new to this site. I have a long question to run by any and all. I have a 92 Electra Glide Ultra which had a 1340 on it. I changed it out to a 113 Ultima due to engine noise I could not get rid of. The Harley manual shows oil line routing on 1985 to 1998 to be feed from oil pump to the out side connection of the oil filter mount and the return to oil tank is be inside of the mount connection. Here is my confusion** The Ultima motor absolutely states the feed from pump to go to the inside connection of the filter mount (motor side) and the return to tank hooks to the outside of filter mount (street side). This is completely opposite from what is shown in the manuals for those years. I have found from much research that filters now are made to feed on the inside part of mount , thus forcing the oil through the several small holes in the oil filter, through the filter paper, then back out the center hole of filter to the middle part of the oil filter mount which is the outside part of filter mount and then back to oil bag. Were the filters for the 85-98 years made to work opposite direction. How do I know I am getting the correct filter??

Oil enters the filter from the outside, and leaves the filter through the center. All engines- cars, bikes, airplanes, trains....
The line coming from the center of the oil filter will be the return to the tank. If you have any doubt, just remove the filter and look to be sure where each fitting goes to.
