Difference between 2 into 2 & 2 into 1
Can anybody with the experience tell me the difference in power and in sound between the Vance Hines 2 into 2 big radius and 2 into 1 big radius pipes?

The 2:1 design is meant to provide greater low-end torque and a "throatier" sound, where the 2:2s typically have a crossover pipe to equalize pressure in order to achieve identical performance in both cylinders and increased HP at higher RPMs.
That said, I really think you need to make a lot of other engine mods & fine tuning to truly gain these advantages to any significantly noticeable degree. Short of that it's mostly a preference of looks.

I'm thinking of changing to the 2 into 1 big radius V&H from my current 2 into 2 V&H big radius, purely for cosmetic reasons, but my main concern is the sound. But you say the 2 into 1 has a throatier sound, which sounds like I'd be heading in the right direction then

With simple stage 1 and a 2:1 you might get a little more ponies and torque, once you do some more motor and headwork is when the 2:1 gets you some more gains. In general with regular pipes not something special like a $1500+ exhaust system the gains go to 2:1, slip ons with stock headers, 2:2, and true duals in that order. Of course like I said, there are the performance true duals which will help put them up around the 2:1's but they aren't cheap.
everything is also very dependent on other mods and tuning for performance as well. a crappy tuned bike with the high performance exhuast won't gain a damn thing over a well tuned bike with drag pipes.

Yep that all makes perfect sense. I've just got 10.5 forged flat tops, 103 cylinders with 259e cams. It's had a tune, runs very well, but I'd get another tune if I changed to 2:1 to make the most of it

I've never seen or heard a 2-1 set up in real life. Just videos and pictures. As for looks, I like the 2-2 the best but that's obvious.

I chose 2 into 2 for look, if I ever build a performance machine, I'd go 2 into 1 no doubt. BTW I have owned a Fatboy with 2 into 1 big radius, sound like a yamahog lol, didn't like it.

After installing Wood 222 cams & dyno tuning I wasn't happy so I switched my 2-2 system out for a D&D Fatcat 2-1. I gained 9hp & 8tq with just the exhaust change alone.
A good 2-1 will yield good gains, even with just a stage 1....best bang for your buck to increase performance there is.
Love the sound of my D&D as well...best sounding exhaust I've heard IMO.

I've just joined the forums, so I'll get a pic up soon. I run a D&D 2 into 1 with a carbon fiber can on my 2013 blacked-out custom Softail Slim. Acoustically, it sounds like the 2-wheeled equivalent of a NASCAR car. From a performance standpoint, I've always loved D&D pipes and have run them on almost every bike I've had from an oldschool KZ650, to my 85 Ninja 600 (way back in 1987), and the list goes on.
As far as engine mods go, I've got a Screaming Eagle intake and the 103" motor has been Dyno'd, but that's about it.

The idea that it there'd probably be good gains from my motor is a big plus. But that just reminds me I just backed out of a whole bunch of engines upgrade because I realized I don't need to go faster. All that money just equals larger fines for me, or hospital. Just keep telling myself it's just a cruiser haha LEAVE the engine alone
