Call it quits or get a Trike
#2
When you can't hold the bike up.
Seriously, I don't ever see myself on a trike, I just dont think it would be the same, but I haven't been faced with that choice either. Depends on the person, I guess.

i think i'd rather have a spyder than a trike. easier to steer, traction control, thumb shifting, better wind protection, more luggage room, and the new 1330 engine for the touring line is a nice upgrade.
if your getting to the point where ya need a trike those things are probably important.

A number of my American Legion Rider buddies have gone to trikes as opposed to calling it quits. Personally, I'm thinking about either a Can Am or a Miata MX-5 sports car when I get to the point where I can't ride mine safely.

Why
Why not try a trike ?
Sure it's different but does that make it unfun ?
I bought one I just felt my riding skills over 40 yrs are not the same.
I think the trike will be fun, if not then I'm done with Harley's .
I want to have a harley still so that's where I'm at.

Depends on you. How much do you, or will you continue to ride if you did get a trike? Do you need a trike to continue to ride? Are your motor skills still up to par to not put yourself or anyone else in harms way?
These are all questions that I would ask myself completely honestly, then decide if I was still passionate enough to invest my time and money into what would probably be my last bike. Trikes aren't cheap! I have actually been very close to having to make this same decision at one point and may have to at some point in the future. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it was pretty bad a few years ago until finally finding medication that works for me. I hope and pray that I get at least another 15 years before I have to go that route, I just turned 50.
Good luck with a difficult decision.

I'm 63 and have been riding for 47 years.
I have osteoarthritis in most all my joints especially in my fingers, elbows, shoulders, and feet.
I just bought a new '13 FLHTC last year.
My wife have been traveling together for many years on 2 wheels and I won't give up or stop until I just can't hold the bike up anymore.
I just had a couple more joints fused in my left hand a few weeks ago because of bone rubbing against bone in the joints and the pain was unbearable.
This will probably be my last new 2 wheeled vehicle, but riding has been such a major part of my life for so many years, I just won't give it up, and if that means the next bike is a trike, so be it.
I see myself riding well into my 70's, but my next one will probably be a trike. It's the best option I have other than giving up riding completely, which I don't see me ever doing.
My body is going to tell me when it's time.
