Default Jacket for riding?

I'm just getting back into riding, this is a 2 part question. I use to never wear a jacket when I rode, as I get older I'm starting to that I may wear jacket while riding. 1st ?, who all wears riding jackets when ever you ride? 2nd ? What do you think between mesh and leather, if I do decide to wear one?

I wear a heavy leather jacket when it's cold. I wear light leather jacket when it's cool/cold. I wear a light cloth jacket when it's cool. When it gets hot, I wear a T-shirt.

Like chickin mentioned, the weather is the deciding factor. leather when cold, a ballistic vented when cool (with or without liner) and a T when hot. If its really cold I add a heated jacket liner

Heavy leather when it's cold. Jean jacket or nylon jacket when it's cool. T-shirt when it's hot.

I wear a canvas style riding jacket that has padded shoulders, elbows, and back. It has a zip in liner for when its real cold but usually above 60 just the outer shell does fine and then in the summer it has vents that unzip front and back so it has good air flow. All pockets have zippers, has special phone/mp3 pocket, and its reflective too.

Aftr talking to someone who broke their shoulder, when they dropped their bike at a light, after slipping on some sand, I try to wear my leather jacket or armored textile jacket.

My leather is custom made high quality jacket, but it is too hot over 65 degrees, so I end up wearing the textile more. I plan to buy this one this summer:

You think a jacket would/could have prevented a broken shoulder?
