My scooter is an '03 Road King, and most of the gauge mod options I see are for later models. I'd love to have one with a blue light, and maybe even an integrated tach and fuel gauge? The only thing I've seen is a different backing plate. Any tips?

Take a good look at Dakota Digital's website. Not the cheapest alternative, but a lot of their speedos are virtually plug and play. Your bike is the last year before the Data Bus speedos were introduced in 2004, but Dakota should have something that will work.

I replaced the stock speedo on my '04 King with a Dakota and I'd do in again if I had to. Much nicer and more information available from the speedo than the stock unit.

 

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for! And no, I don't think $500 is too much. There are features that I don't currently have, like tach, and gear position indicator. Will I need additional sensors and wiring? Or are they there, and only the gauge with factory wiring is required?
