Default Rolling with clutch pulled but in gear?

2010 Street glide

Im still learning with this new bike. With other bikes that I have had I could pull in the clutch and roll the bike no matter what gear it was in. For some reason I cannot push this one unless its out of gear.

Is this normal for HD's or does the clutch need to be adjusted or worst fixed?

I have noticed that it clunks hard when I do put it in gear but I thought that was what HD does.

Help
Rick

My '02 Sporty behaves like this when the transmission/primary is cold. Once it warms up, not so much. I've been told it's because the cold oil in the wet clutch keeps the plates stuck together. No idea if that's true or not, but until I hear a better explanation, that's what I'll go with. I don't recall my '77 Honda CB750 being like that, but it's been 18 years since I had that bike.

Might be time for a primary fluid change.

This is why you can't push it in gear with the clutch engaged,
A heavier weight gear oil in the transmission will quieten down the clunk. If you continue to use the 20w50 motor oil in the trans it will clunk forever.

Im fine with it, if that is how it is suppose to be. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't anything wrong with it. Like I said all of my other (non HD) bikes rolled with the clutch engaged and in gear , so it made me concerned.

Thanks
Rick

Mine still clunks with redline shockproof in the tranny. Mine also drags when in gear. I start in neutral and exercise the clutch several times before putting it in gear

had that problem. at the risk of an oil debate, yes it makes a difference what oil is in the primary

if it's dragging in gear you need to adjust the clutch. that may be why it bangs into gear so hard too.
