Default Rechroming a muffler

I made a couple of upgrades over the winter, headpipes and cam/tensioner upgrade. Long story short, I did the pipes first and rode it around for a couple of weeks before the cam and subsequent tune. It was apparently lean in the rear cylinder and the muffler turned a gold color. What could I expect to have it rechromed? I have no experience whatsoever with a chrome shop.

you can rechrome it and it will only discolor again. Look into installing full coverage chrome heat shields on the head pipes and they will retain the clean chrome look much longer.

Maybe I wasn't clear, it's the muffler that has just a slight gold tint to it. The headpipes do have heat shields. Prior to the tune it ran hotter on the rear cylinder, hot enough to discolor the chrome just enough to bug me. The muffler is a Rinehart, with just a baffle and an end cap so it seems to me it could be rechromed.

I would start by calling a custom chrome shop. They should be able to answer your question. Good luck.

Not many shops will redo mufflers because you can't get all the contaminates out.

Depends on the type of exhaust system you have. I had the muffler section of my Vance & Hine Pro Pipe HS re-chromed by Brown's Plating in Paducah, KY. I pulled the baffle out and sent the conical section to them. They did a great job!

I forgot about Browns. I'll contact them and see what they say. Thanks.
