Default Speedo WAY OFF!

I took the bike on the highway for the first time today. I had the wife clock my speed for me in her truck. to do an actual 70MPH I have to do almost exactly 80 by my speedo. the faster I go the more it is off. when I'm in a 50MPH zone I have to do about 55 by my speedo to make an actual 50MPH. the bike is a custom job ( did up sportster 1200 ) but I though it had the stock front wheel and stock speedo. not so sure now. my other bike was only about 3-4MPH off at 70MPH, but 10MPH! thats WAY OFF! my speedo must be mad for a smaller front rim.

how far off is your bike at highway speed?

I can't use a tuner. I have a carb not EFI. to be honest I don't really want EFI. JMO

My current (until this morning) bike has a speedo error of about 10% across the board. To go 55 mph I have to drive the speedo to 60 mph, etc... It's a Suzuki with a digital readout speedo and it's a well documented issue on various user forums. Factory won't talk about it, I suspect they are it doing it intentionally, if they can make it 10% off they can make it accurate. Annoying.

Why guess....Stick a GPS on your bars and check it for certain. It will show your true speed accurately.

I dont hVE GPS and don't care to fix the speedo. I was just wondering how far off your guys speedos are. I was thinking that 10MPH off at 70 is to much to be normal

My speedometer is fine. It's my gas gauge. It can vary from 180 miles, up to 240. And I fill it up to the same spot.

My buddy and I were arguing whose speedo was accurate (he rides a Vstar). So I ran a GPS and compared to my speedo. Mine was within one mph of matching up with the GPS. My buddy took his bike to the dealer (it was brand new) and they told him 5-10 mph off was normal for the V-stars.
