Default Removal of clear plastic on back fender

I was looking to put a fender bib on the back fender of my deluxe. I removed the passenger pillion and there was a clear sheet of plastic. I suppose to protect the paint of the fender when the pillion was on. I would have left it there but it was wider than the bib would have been and it had started to bubble in places and just didnt look good. It came off fairly easily but left a residue on my fender. Does anyone know what you would use to remove that without damaging the paint?

WD-40 or Goo-Gone. But be careful, as I think the Goo-Gone is a mild abrasive...

3M adhesive remover. Comes in a spray can and can be found in Walmart in the auto-parts section.

No solvents, etc. Just use a hair dryer and slowly heat & peel. I do that every spring on my boat (registration stickers) and it's the best way I've found.

I had a Deluxe, and they do make a bib that covers the plastic, got it on ebay. You don't have to remove the plastic, it's there for a reason when you put the pass seat back on.

The protective film on my rear fender did not prevent wear spots in the paint on my Heritage. The dealer actually told me that it was my fault, as the Heritage is designed for a passenger. Riding without a passenger allows the pillion to vibrate and damage the paint.
I argued, and they finally repaired the damage. Now, I just place a small piece of chamois under the pillion when I use it.
