Default how many miles can you get on an engine, before an overhaul

just curious. I'm working out my potential mileage with commuting to wk, depending on if we have a good summer or not! My bike has a whole whopping 38 miles on it right now.

It depends mainly on riding style and how often/how thoroughly maintenance is performed, I imagine. A wild guess, I'd say 80-90k is when you might think about it.

How many miles before overhaul?
How long is a piece of string?

No way to tell.

Be gentle, and maintain it and a long time.
Ride like you stole it every time it's started and not long for this world.

Highway = high miles
city and rush hours = shorter life

Depends on what your compression is and what condition the bearings are in. I made it to 118k before my rod bearings went bad. Still had great compression.

You beat me to it.

I worked software support for years and one of my bosses used that on a client one day when they asked how long it would take to fix a problem. Guy was like, "Are you being a smart ***?"

My boss kindly replied, "No, sir. But there are 2 many unknown variables.
First, we don't know what is causing the problem.
Second, once we identify the cause of the problem, we have to then look at a possible solution/fix for the problem.
Third, once we have an idea of what the possible solution/fix is, we have to test it to make sure that it corrects your problem but also make sure that it does not cause other problems down the road."

2400 X 12 = 28,800 commuter miles
+
5,000 run around miles
=
33,800 miles annually.

My guess is 3 years.

I have read where some go well into the 100k range before having issues.

Do the regular maintenance & upkeep , don't ride it like your mad at it and it will last as it lasts ( a long time ) 100,000 plus is common .
