Default Lock it or its gone?

So as I've stated before I have to store my bike covered outdoors. I'm thinking of getting a disk lock just to up the security. Options on them? Motorcycle thefts aren't really an issue in any since of the word in my area. So I don't want to go over the already $50 for this lock.

I use to live in Brooklyn NY. Lock or it's gone really did apply there. You can never be to secure but can be to careless. Just do not forget to take the disc lock of before you dump the clutch. Don't ask me how I know

Consider a HD alarm with pager or a lo-jack

IMO buying/using locks is like buying/using riding gear. You just have to decide how much you're willing to bet on things always going your way.

Disc locks might keep somebody from rolling your bike away. I've used disc locks for short stints in daylight in a well-traveled area...but that's it. Four guys will have your bike and its disc lock on a landscape trailer in about 20 seconds.

For outdoor, overnight storage, I'd go bigger. Lock your bike TO something if possible using the best cable lock you can afford. That said, a disc lock is better than nothing...thieves look for the easiest targets... But like someone above said, find a way to remind yourself that it's on there before you ride off. I have a bent brake rotor hanging on my garage wall from my one mistake...

I have a fork lock and a siren/ motion alarm and pager. And I park mine in a car port. I'd like to get the disk brake lock for home, since it weighs a ton. But these are just deturants for small time thieves. If a group of guys wants your bike, they'll get it. Just keep your insurance paid up.

if you get a disc lock, you will also need some new disks, some antiseptic spray and band-aids for the boo boos. You will forget... I did more than once. And once was in a situation where it was time to go... like NOW. Or attach a big red flag to it... one you see right in front of your face when you sit on the bike.

The HD fork lock is easily broken.

my disk lock came with a bright orange bungee cord that you hook up to your brake lever. even if you forget, you will remember before you attempt to drive off......
