Déjà vu: TC88 Good & Bad
Had some work done recently on my RG, and just wanted to chat with some fellow gear heads and hear their perspective on what I think is a fun little engine.

I've replaced the troublesome cam tensioners and added a better cam and stage one (carb). These simple low level mods in this motor run fantastic, and it allows me to have no problem keeping up with my buddies with newer 96 and 103's stage one bikes. Couldn't be happier.

I have a 2006 FLHX.
PCIII, cam, K&N Filter, V&H exhaust. 9 years old and no problems yet.
Did the cam 3 years ago @ 32K miles. Tensioners still looked good, but replaced with cam.
I feel like the maytag repair man with all these posts about heat, limp mode, entertainment centers, etc.
The 88 is a great motor. I have no issues keeping up with my friends 103's.

Same here... I've got a 2005 FLHTCI with about 30k. Haven't done the cam chain tensioners yet but I will this year with upgraded cams! Even with just a breather kit, pipes and fuel management, I have no problem running with my brother's 103

Yup once you get past the HD tax ... the TC88 is a good motor. I have ness intake, rush slip ons, cam tensioner upgrade and PC3 for the EFI. Keep it simple and the engine just keeps turning. I'm at 98K miles and counting.
It like the rest of the bike is a blank sheet or paper just waiting for anything the rider wants to go for, be it a hot shot motor or a all day highway runner...

It is a fun little engine. My 88" RG was running strong at 100,000miles. My 103 is obviously 20% bigger, but let's just say it wasn't as trouble-free....

Got the 06 in Dec of 13 and it has V&H pipes with a SE intake and it's a carb, runs like a champ. Really happy with the way it runs and handles so I guess I'll have to hang onto it.
