Default Questions about the 96 ci engine

I am contemplating getting either a used Heritage Classic or a Road King Classic. I have specifically chosen the 2007 model year because these bikes have a 96 ci (rather than 88 ci) engine, a 6-speed (rather than 5-speed) transmission, electronic fuel injection, and hydraulic (rather than coil spring-driven) cam chain tensioners. I figure that I can save some money by going with the earliest year that has all these features.

Then again, sometimes problems occur the first year something new is introduced, resulting in significant improvements and corrections being made in subsequent years.

My questions are - are there any known "issues" with the 96 ci engine used in 2007 and were any improvements introduced by H-D in the subsequent years (through 2011) that this engine was used?

Thanks for your help and insight!

I've got an 09 FLHR and have had no issues at all with the engine.

On the RK side I would recommend researching the difference between the 07/08 and the 09. The 09 brought the new frame which supposedly provides great improvement.

Another difference between the two models in that timeframe is availability of cruise control and ABS on the tourer. Even with that said, there are many qualities to the Heritage that would warrant a nod it's way. Both are fine and fit the best bang for your buck in the Harley lineup - my opinion.

I've got an 07 Street Glide and have had no issues what so ever with it. The 6 speed is sweet and there's plenty of power with the TC96 with a Stage 1 kit.

I like my 07 RKC but I had to do a few mods to it, the main one being the throttle up rear stabilizer that is a must. I am 5' 10 1/2" and the heritage
handles were a must also. the 07 was the last year for throttle cables
last year for the low profile 5 gallon gas tank, and the last year for Not having
catalytic converters.

and the last year for Not having
catalytic converters.

Not sure, but I think that would be '09.

'07 Road King Classic. Only problem was a weep between the motor cases, which was fixed under ESP.

I bought my '07 Road Glide in August of 2011 with 7,350 miles on it, it's now up over 38,000 and doing fine...
