Exclamation Vance and Hines install help

Just back to the forum on a new profile after a few years away. I just picked up a new set of Vance and Hines Longshots for my 1998 Fatboy. I've read the instructions and I'm average at wrenching. I've heard the install is pretty straight forward to do. The instructions have a few areas that come across confusing to me. Is there anyone that can give me some tips or pointers on the install. I've done a search on the forum and there are really no detailed threads and instructions on an install for an evo softail near my year. Thanks for any help.

It is a fairly straight forward operation. Four pieces of advice I can give you is:

1.) Don't tighten everything up until it's all lined up the way you want it.
2.) Use some SE exhaust gaskets (They're a little more forgiving).
3.) If your exhaust studs come out of the head, be sure to use some antiseize on them before reinstalling them.
4.) Clean the pipes before you fire the bike up otherwise you will probably wind up with some discoloration.
Good luck with the install and congrats on your new purchase.

The best thing you could of purchased before the pipes is a service manual. I find your story about being away a little shakey but I don't really care. It just kills me when we have new members come on and the first post is always similar to the following I have been away from riding for a while and I'm just coming back. People who ride will accept you regardless if your new or old but you have to be a straight up person who looks you in the eye while shaking your hand.I welcome you and will be more than happy to help you with any problem. Ride Safe The posting by Monkeyboy 22 is dead on but I think he should of told you to clean the pipes with Windex before starting. If you don't then the oils from the skin can cause discoloration of the pipes.
