Default biker stereotype

i was talking with my wife the other day, and the subject of being called a biker can up... during the conversation it dawned on me that harley does sell a life style, and all the other moco's dont as far as buy a bike and get a life style, be in the wind.. then i realized that if a person rides a harley then they are a biker, but if you ride anything else then you just ride a motorcycle, and i find it funny that that stereotype is not applied to all bikes as a whole, but just to the harley riders for the most part.... in these parts of the country the only time the term "bikers" are applied to the other brands of bikes are when they are ride in large groups of 10 or more and yet if 3 or more harleys ride by then they are a group of bikers... does anyone else see this in their part of the country?

I find it interesting that moco hasn't copyrighted and trademarked the word "biker". You are right, biker is synonymous with Harley Davidson.

i guess a bike is a bike is a bike, and yet the public doesnt see it that way unless they are on the road and have a bike near them, and then the ones that give the bad name of "motorcycle" are the ones on crouch rockets because of how careless they are and the lack of respect they have for others on the road

Okay...TO ME a biker is in a club but not the "good guy" clubs. Everyone else are just bike riders, like me. And that includes all bikes. Again, TO ME.

They don't sell a lifestyle and just because you ride a Harley, doesn't make you a "biker". They sell merchandise and they want to make you believe they sell an image.

Most people who do not ride a motorcycle and have never had any interest in the activity probably are not able to differentiate a Harley from a cruiser by another manufacturer - unless they see the emblem on the tank. To most people, any cruiser they see is a Harley.

As far as the 'who is a biker' stuff, it has been beat to death on the forum, again and again. As far as public perception, though, anyone on a cruiser dressed like a pirate is a biker.
