Default I need to start reading owners manuals

I have been changing the fluids too frequently in my FXD,changed the primary every oil change and the trans every other oil change and today finally looked at the maintance schedule in the owners manual and that is way too soon. I know it did not hurt it but could have used that money for gas or even some more beer, new schedule is primary every other oil change and the trans on every fourth and I do write them down so I wont forget.

That's pretty funny. I was going to start a thread the other day asking how many of us change all three fluids on every change. I do. Every 5,000. And I do read the manual, but until recently I must have skipped over that part. Been doing it since 2003 when I bought my first Harley. This or This ?

According to my manual 10,000 on the primary and 20,000 on the trans so no need to change all 3 every oil change, since I only put about 3000 a year on mine 12,000 on the trans and 6000 on the primary should do just fine.

Even though I right mine down too I plan on doing the engine oil every 5,000 and the trans and primary every 10,000.

I do all every 5K. I use Red Line & it ain't cheap, but it's just my thing. I had a brother -in-law & he only changed his oil filter in his Caddy & we would get into some heated arguments about that.

I'm changing every 3 at least once a year regardless of miles because Im not putting on more than 2k a year anyways, unlike so many iron butts on this forum.

I've laid in a supply of Red Line engine, primary and transmission oils too. My new Breakout hasn't had its initial 1000 mi oil change yet. Is the first change too soon to switch to a synthetic ? I've read standard oils are better for the break in period, and that I believe, is what comes in the bike in any case.

Isn't standard practice to use mineral until the first service @1000 and then switch? "They" say break-in is the first 500 miles, although I've heard that most of the "damage" is done in the first 50 and that the bike doesn't loosen up until around 10k or 40k (depending on who you listen to! :-)
