Lane Splitting Fatal for One Motorcyclist - A 49-year-old Livermore man died Tuesday morning in a crash that shut down the connector ramp between westbound Interstate 580 and northbound I-238 for two hours as police worked to clear the scene.

I agree with SKIPIT.. I've seen guys splitting lanes nearly at 60 mph while the traffic is going about 45.. which is stupid.
The thing is that you have to be careful.. no matter if you're splitting lanes or just riding through traffic. Cagers weave in the lanes, are distracted by their cell phones, and just are generally erratic. If you ride like the people around you are idiots, AND are deliberately out to get you.. you stand a better chance.

Legal or not, I've never been a fan of this and would never do it. People can't see you when you're in your own lane never mind riding between cars. I've had friends I ride with do this and I just let them go. I'd rather catch up with them later than lose a leg or get killed. The morning commute is the worst when most people are still half asleep.

In a lot of instances lane splitting puts you in a safer position than sitting their waiting to get rear-ended by some idiot. Face it, it's all dangerous. Going up & down the stairs can be fatal.IMHO don't get out of the easy chair.
