Default Stiffen my windshield

That's not a euphemism!

My 01 Dyna has the quick release windshield, but it flexes at highway speeds and shoots the air right on top of my helmet. I get almost constant buffetting at speeds above 60mph.

Has anyone attempted to reduce the flex in their windshield so that it moves the air above their head? Would this even work?

Any suggestions would be appreciated because the thing is worthless to me in its current configuration.

on my shield most all of the buffering come from below, not over the top..
For softails they make deflectors called the Fangs. they mount on the forks and is about the best mod to help with the wind..

I did the "hand test" by moving my hands around at speed to see where the buffetting was coming from. Didn't seen to come from below and blocking the air coming up didn't stop the buffet.

I'm thinking about epoxying some aluminum strips along the edges of the shield. Thoughts?

There are windshields that have a duckbill re-curve right at the top to send the air just over the top of your helmet. Fast Aire is but one of those companies.

I have not noticed as much buffeting since installing a long ride shield.
They are a site sponsor and often have specials. Worth a call or email to check out.

One of these days I am going to tape lengths of a brightly colored yarn to a variety of surfaces...especially front fender, light, tank and front fork, me. If you have fairing and/or windshield include those of course. Then do a number of runs on a 4 lane at various speeds, say 40-60-80 and have photos taken. Air does some goofy stuff. I used to drive a highly modified Miata and through that circle talked to a guy who had his baseball cap fly off his head at speed with the top down. Reflexively he grabbed for it and there it was hovering just above his head. As a career pilot I have many examples in airplane design that bear out all is not what it may seem. Using the yarn is called tufting.

Someone mention using small wind directing thingys. They are common in improving airflow, reducing turbulence and enhancing laminar airflow. Where to put them? They are called vortise generators. Where to put them is the question tufting can help with.

I hope somebody beats me to it and posts the results for us. I have radically incrementally reduced the area of my Deuce detachable windshield to reduce helmet buffeting over 60-65. Surprisingly it did help a bit, but not much. The windshield still works as well as it did full size but no much help on buffet. I decided to reduce it when buffeting remained unchanged when I sat extra tall in the saddle. Arm across chest bit helped a little more....but not all that comfortable position after a minute or two. I have variety of helmets...they all buffet...full face expensive Shoi, el cheapo something, good 3/4. My head does not buffet with no helmet. I have experimented with a variety of spoiler attached to a couple helmets with no results. Speaking of 3/4 , mine is bizarre. The visor had to be nearly made immovable because at speed it would rise if lowered and lower if raised. Weird science going on.

Dissolve a Viagra in some water and rub the solution on your windshield.
(Disclaimer: If windshield remains stiff after 4 hours, keep riding.)

Also, lay off the booze. It's giving you "whiskey shield".
