I have had quite a few helmets and my favorite is the Biltwell Bonanza.

One thing that I would say is try to find someplace that has helmets for sale and try a few on to see which one feels the best for you. The reason that I say that is this, a helmet that feels comfy on my head might not feel comfy on somebody else's head because not all heads are shaped the same.

Like a pair of boots, you have to break in a helmet to make it comfy.
If it's comfy when new, it's too loose and doesn't fit you. snug fit is what you want. it will loosen up as you wear it.
Don't look in a mirror when shopping for a helmet, they all make you look like a nimrod.

I really like the Outlaw ultra slim...mostly because it doesn't make my head look as much like a ***** as the rest of the helmets out there.

Being you came from a no hemet state to a helmet required state, go for the Akoury AK88 or A1.
Smallest low profile on the market and still DOT.
