Default COOLING THE BIKE - a gal and 2nd degree burns

I'm a girl on a 2009 Nighttrain, have read the hundreds of posts about everyone's opinion of how to get the bike's cooler. And not that I have a money tree, but I'm desperate to avoid the 2nd degree burns from the heat off the bike like I got 2 years ago in Sturgis when again, I head south to Texas for the ROT Rally next month.

My question is this, has anyone used one of these and know if it's any good? http://www.ebay.com/itm/REUSABLE-Bla...ht_7186wt_1362

BTW, I know it's not a silver bullet solution. I'm hoping that if each thing I do contributes to a degree or more of heat reduction, then combined I might be able to escape the burn on a 30" inseam.

What am I doing?

Installing the HD softwail oil cooler unit
Installing RJS heat deflectors
Moving to Amsoil Synthetic oils
Raising the tank 2" for added airflow
Having the stealer check my dyno/tune and intake for leaks
Lowering f/b suspension so I have more leg clearance

And yes... maybe one of the oil filter coolers or collars if the one I saw on ebay ain't junk.

BTW, thanks in advance for your opinions and advice, I welcome them!

I've never used one, but it stands to reason that the fins will act as a heat sink.

Come on down for ROT, we'd be happy to have you.

Knowing how your bike is set up (pipe, intake, tuner, etc???) would be helpful.

While the fueling may be an issue I'm guessing it has more to do with the pipe you have on there and perhaps what you wear while riding - how do you normally dress for the ride?

Water of 135 degrees F can produce third degree burns in as little as 15 seconds. Considering that the typical air-cooled HD motor operates at about 225 degrees, all the methods you've mentioned MIGHT provide 15 degrees of heat reduction.

That's not nearly enough for most to perceive any heat relief - not to mention that at 200 degrees, the skin can suffer third degree burns in about a second.

Unless you can completely eliminate contact between the hot surface and your skin, I don't think that oil filter is going to do much but lighten your bank account.

Good luck!

In answer to your question, that oil filter is not going to cool your bike one bit. Of the solutions you suggested, I would go with lowering the bike a little and/or adding Vieds but those will only help slightly. Depending on where you got burned the heat deflectors may help also. No matter what you do though, it's an air cooled engine and it's going to run hot.

Where on your body did you get the burns? I think you'll need to concentrate more on protective clothing then mods to your bike. Even a liquid cooled engine and it's associated components, exhaust pipes, etc. will run hot enough to burn skin on contact.

What did you touch to get second degree burns? Maybe the heat shields will work.

My VTX is water cooled and I still burned my leg good on it....twice. I stopped wearing shorts after that.
