Default Best way to store fuel tank to avoid rust

As per title, I am swapping my tank tomorrow with one I just had painted and want to store my original tank for awhile, so I want to store it with out it rusting inside and in the filler hole. Was thinking of sealing it or at least covering the hole for the dash and the fuel filler with tape or something, or at least grease in the filler hole or CRC WD40.

I have no idea if this will slow the dreaded tin rot from getting into it or not but any one with knowledge and ideas ?

Not an expert but another thought I had is pulling a bunch of those moisture absorbing packets in the tank before you seal it up as well..

Not an expert either, but I just put some motor oil in there and swirl it around.

I was thinking spray a bunch of 2 stroke engine fogger inside and store it somewhere dry. Just be sure and dump a quart of gas inside and rinse it out before using it again

Warm it up in the hot sun then coat the inside with fogging oil spray.

Fogging oil or heavy oil. Store in a dry cool place with it open and exposed to the air. Dust is not your enemy. Wet is.

I have a '72 Honda Trail 90 that has been stored for 15 years, inside of tank sprayed with WD40, still looks good inside.

I do not like WD40. WD40 will not protect anything here from forming rust eventually. Heavy oil, fogging oil, grease, will help prevent rust here... Your bike and it may be your climate that makes the difference.
