Default Ever had a valve stem come apart?

On a recent road trip to the Smoky Mts. I came out to find my rear tire flat When I looked closer the valve stem was coming apart. Not the core coming out, the rubber on the valve itself just disintegrated. Had to have it trailered to the local bike shop for repair.

Never had this happen before. New stems with the new tires about 2K ago. Anyone else ever have this problem? Could it have something to do with the metal covers?

What rubber? Mine is a threaded steel shaft coming out of the rim, held fast with a nut.

Ah...tube tire?

Can't say I've ever had a valve stem disintegrate on any of my vehices. Maybe a bad batch of them got produced, even in the worse conditions, I'd think they'd last 2 years.

I know right? They were put in last November. Wish I had kept it, but I was so grateful to get back on the road I didn't even think about it until I was long gone.

Yes, had one happen last summer. The gasket came apart in the needle assembly.

This was the actual body of the valve, not the inner works. These have a metal cover that screws down over the valve replacing the plastic cap and snugs up against the wheel itself.

Sounds like you didnt really get a new valve stem. I used to work for a place doing alot of tire repair and changing and can tell you that from what i seen in car tires is sometimes places that sell you that 2 buck stem dont change it they just get the 2 bucks. When that happens the rubber can wear away real quick.

Always double check and make sure you have a new valve stem.
