That sucks. But I'm really surprised that a dealership let him ride their bike without a helmet. The two dealerships I deal with, make you sign a release, wear a helmet and a reflective vest.

Thoughts to the family and his friends.

don't think it was a moco dealership...some type of independent shop/used bike store. looks like the rider came up on the broken down car and others that had slowed or stopped and swerved into the other lane and hit a car head on. looks like mother nature is still culling the herd.

Why do people feel the need to remind everyone that people die in accidents everyday?

Just a reminder to everybody. Ya gotta pay attention and think. Just 'cause you been watching "Biker Build off" and "OCC" reruns does not mean You can ride a motorcycle.

I've always had to have a helmet also and one place even made me wear a reflective vest. In fact the dealership I bought my bike from didn't even hardly want to let me test ride it until after we talked numbers and they were fairly confident I was going to get it. Maybe cuz I'm young. It would have been an awkward conversation had I decided I didn't want it.

Condolences to the family. I don't know...I think it all comes down to paying attention, being laser-focused and totally aware of what's going on around you.

I understand what you mean. But as hard as these threads are to read, I try to use them as reminders to be vigilant out there.

If I come across a two lane road today without much shoulder I'll be more likely to take it easy with the speed, just in case any cars are broke down ahead.

I always wear a DOT helmet. Not all accidents are so obvious about the benefits of one, but this one is.

RIP to the rider.

I know what you mean about remaining vigilant. I occasionally watch the YouTube Motorcycle Crash compilations to keep me sharp - "What would I have done differently than that guy/girl?" It sounds morbid, but it keeps me on my toes.

Really sad to hear,,
Thinking when people TEST ride (anything) sometimes they don't have time to react or know how the bike will handle if a bad situations comes up.

Still its a sad situation for the family..
